From the National Public Radio website:This I Believe is a national media project engaging people in writing, sharing, and discussing the core values and beliefs that guide their daily lives. NPR airs these three-minute essays on All Things Considered and Weekend Edition Sunday.
This I Believe is based on a 1950s radio program of the same name, hosted by acclaimed journalist Edward R. Murrow. In creating This I Believe, Murrow said the program sought "to point to the common meeting grounds of beliefs, which is the essence of brotherhood and the floor of our civilization.
I would like each of you to participate in this national project, composing individual statements of belief from which we can discover and reaffirm the values, stories, and meanings that bind us. Please follow the This I Believe Essay-Writing Instructions published on the NPR website. Your submission is due to me electronically by class time Wednesday, 30 January.
Oh, and since we're thinking about Einstein, you might be interested in his contribution to the program: "An Ideal of Service to Our Fellow Man."
